Classifications of Scissor Lifts & Aerial Lift Platforms
Scissor lifts consist of a series of crisscrossed steel arms, connected to create an X pattern. When the crisscrossed arms are extended, the platform is vertically raised. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting apparatus in order to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
The scissor lift has a low profile, best used for smooth surfaces such as concrete, pavement and hard dirt surfaces. These machines use either an electric motor or a combustion engine in order to power the lifting apparatus and move the lift. The operator will need to move the lift itself if he or she has to travel horizontally, since the lift apparatus only operates the lift in a vertical way.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts use the same lifting technology as a typical scissor lift. The key difference is that the rough terrain models feature a different base that is particularly made for uneven surfaces. These models also offer oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive so as to easily navigate through muddy and difficult terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift uses a telescoping beam which raises both vertically and diagonally. This unit has a small work platform which houses controls to be able to control the boom. The controls work with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics which power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift unit.
Articulating Boom Lift
The articulating boom lift features 2 telescopic booms which are attached with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting equipment has a bucket or a small work platform that is equipped with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are available with either off-road or hard surface tires. These lifts are made in order to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
In order to raise a work platform vertically into the air, the aerial mast lift utilizes a telescopic mast. The lift is typically powered electrically or pneumatically and are self-propelled models. These machinery provide an excellent solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is essential to bear in mind that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road application.
Bud Bushnell founded Genie Industries in nineteen sixty six, after he purchased the manufacturing rights to a material lift which functioned on compressed air. The name Genie came from the "magic in the bottle" that was used to raise and lower the hoist. This device greatly impressed customers and hence, the name was established.
Genie has moved into numerous new markets, as the need for work platforms and lifts grew. Over time, as the requirements for new equipment to meet many applications grew, the company made itself recognized in many new markets. For example, Genie went into making light towers, man-lifts, articulated booms, stick booms and telehandlers.
Because of the economic recession in the beginning of the 2000s, Genie decided to acquire a partner who held the same values. They partnered up together with Terex Corporation. This company has a history acquiring equipment manufacturers throughout the world who proved to be a good business match. Genie Industries was sold during the year 2002 and became a part of Terex Corporation.
In the early years after the sale, it was determined to maintain the Genie brand name within the Terex Aerial Work Platforms or AWP segment of Terex, due to the name's solid reputation within the marketplace. Hence, all Genie equipment continue to be marketed under the Genie brand.
Genie takes pride in listening to their customers. The company is dedicated to continually improving quality and efficiency and is also committed to minimizing waste. Even long after the sale has been closed, the company focuses on providing outstanding support. These are the very work disciplines which have made Genie a trusted brand over the past decades and continue to keep their reputation for top-of-the-line and quality machines.
Genie's DC and Bi-Energy machinery are emission-free, quiet machinery capable of working in delicate work environments. Where the equipment must be driven significant distances, such as within industrial situations, the Genie bi-energy system combines the advantages of a 48V DC machinery with the power of a diesel-powered generator.
Compared to any of the different kinds of aerial platforms, telescopic booms provide greater horizontal reach overall. These equipment are ideal for limited access areas in construction and other industrial settings. The Genie Telescopic S booms have been designed to offer utmost productivity. These machines deliver supreme traction and the drive speed\the drive speed and supreme traction you need in order to travel around the work site and job area.
