Pneumatic forklifts are common in warehouse and shipping operations. Also called pallet trucks or pump trucks, they are used in order to transport materials and products around on wooden pallets using metal forks mounted on a wheeled counterweight. The counterweight contains a pump which lifts the forks off the ground. A pallet truck is intended to be operated by one person.
Pallet trucks should be operated carefully in order to prevent loss of control while raising heavy loads. Machine must be checked before operating. Clear the wheels area of any obstructions. Check that the handle smoothly turns. The pallet must be carefully stacked to guarantee that nothing will fall off during transportation.
In order to release air in the pump and lower the forks, squeeze the lever found on the inside of the metal loop on the end of the pallet truck's handle. The forks can then be pushed into the pallet slots. The forks must be at the center so as to guarantee equal distribution of the pallet's weight across them. Lift the forks from the ground by pumping the handle of the pneumatic lift until the pallet has fully cleared the ground. Do not lift the pallet very high or the forklift can unbalance.
